1980年6月18日兵庫に生まれ、大阪育ち。
10歳の時に親の夢と共にオーストラリア・シドニーへ移住。
現地の小学校にいきなり入り、スポーツを通して英語を習得。
19歳で現地プロサッカーリーグでデビューし、リーグ優勝、ベスト11、決勝戦MVPを獲得。本人の夢であったヨーロッパでプロになる事を実現するために片道チケットを買い22歳でヨーロッパへ渡る。
約1ヶ月後、スイス1部リーグ日本人初の選手としてヌシャテルザマックスと契約を交わす。2003/04シーズンではAJオーセル戦でUEFAカップに出場。
オーストラリアの初代プロリーグ、Aリーグでプレーするために一時帰国するが、 2度の骨折と膝の怪我で試合に出られない時期を過ごす。
その中でヨーロッパへの再挑戦を望み、2007年4月、再びヨーロッパに。
7月に、ドイツ3部リーグVFBリューベックと契約する。
2008年日本に戻り、8月からアディダスフットサルパークを始め世界に通用する日本人選手を育てるためにTouch of Classサッカースクールをスタート。
世界基準の教育、バイリンガル教育、生徒と共に一流の人間を目指すために今矢直城の新たな挑戦は続いている。

これまでそんなことはなかったし、これからもないだろう、彼を除いて。

Naoki Imaya: Born in Hyogo, Japan on the 18th of June, 1980.
Raised in Osaka until he was 10 before moving to Sydney, Australia with his family as it was his parents' dream to live in Australia.
He was put into a local primary school straight away where he picked up English through sport activities. At the age of 19 he makes a debut as a professional footballer where he wins the league and collects the MVP award in the final.
In 2003, he flies to Europe with an one way ticket to make his long time dream come true. To play professionally in Europe.
One month later he signs a contract with Neuchatel Xamax in the top freight of the Swiss league and becomes the first ever Japanese player to do so.
In the 2003/04 season, he featured in the UEFA Cup game against AJ Auxerre.
He returns to Australia in 2005 to play in the inaugural season of the A-league, where he spends most of his time on the sidelines as he breaks his ankle on 2 occasions plus a knee injury.
His wish to play in Europe again was always on his mind and in 2007 he once again flies to Europe and signs a contract with VFB Lubeck in the 3rd division of Germany.
In 2008, he returns to Japan and from August in the same year, he starts a football school where he teaches kids football in English and to be first class on and off the field.
His new challenge is to establish this Touch of Class Football School and produce a world class player one day.
"A no name player either in Japan or Europe. Yet he features in the UEFA Cup. Never heard before, and most likely never will again except for him. Naoki Imaya has the mentality and the strength to perform under the toughest environment. Japanese football is finally starting to realise that the mental toughness is the key to becoming a top footballer.
In saying that, Imaya knows what is really important in football and I believe he is the right person to get that message across"
